once upon a rediscovery

– david a taylor

there is a fire inside the wine
inside the discussions of life
the hiccups of memory
distracted
physiological
depressed & suppressed

burn and move forward
listen to the veins
pushing
sometimes the only thing to focus on

there is a center
a center to come back to
to be enveloped in
to remember
a smile in the slow chaos
a warmth in the monotony
feeling for feeling
a resonance you cannot forget

my veins are on fire
fall leaves waiting on the pavement
twenty-five dollar wine in the brain
conversations of the tangible and transitory
being alone
the permanent void
suppressing
and waiting for a hug
that can only be on the other side
